Tentative Itinerary

​

DAY 1 Fly to Fresno, CA. Grocery/Supply Shopping. Overnight in Hotel (Quad occupancy)

​

DAY 2 Visit Sequoia National Park, General Sherman Tree, Grant Grove and more of the Giants. 

 

DAY 3 This morning, we will drive along King’s River to the end of the road, where the wilderness begins. Today’s hike will take us along the roaring King’s River. 

 

DAY 4 Depart for Yosemite National Park, the first protected natural area in the USA.
Hike and explore Yosemite  Falls, Mirror Lake, and the valley loop. 

 

DAY 5 Today we have options – See the famous Hetch Hetchy Valley, which started the rallying cry to preserve our wilderness, or travel out the east side of the Sierras for a visit to Devil’s Postpile National Monument, then soak in a real hot spring along Mono Lake.

DAY 6 Pack up your backpacks and prepare for your backcountry experience in Yosemite! Our route will be the North Rim of Yosemite National Park, featuring 25 miles of breathtaking views!

DAY 7 Backpacking in Yosemite. During our hike, we will crest the top of El Capitan, a monolith measuring over 3,000 feet from the valley floor. (Featured in Free Solo, Dawn Wall, and Star Trek V)

 

DAY 8 Backpacking in Yosemite.  Arrive back in Yosemite Valley. 

 

DAY 9 Explore Yosemite Valley.  Today we will have some of our troop participate in Yosemite Mountaineering School and climb in the most famous place in the world.

 

DAY 10 Return to civilization! We will finish our camping experience and return to a hotel to clean up for the trip home. Overnight in hotel (Quad occupancy)

Day 11 Fly Home!

You will see:

  • The world’s largest tree

  • Yosemite Falls (dropping 2,425 feet making it the world’s highest waterfall!

  • Yosemite Valley with El Capitan, Half Dome and King’s Canyon

  • A designated wilderness area including 3 national parks, Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, and King’s Canyon National Park and Devil’s Postpile National Monument.

 

Elevation:

This entire route is high elevation. Expect some physical adjustments to be able to hike. Nights will be cool throughout the trip.

 

Estimated Cost: $1,200 (Youth and Adult)

 

Price includes:

  • 2 hotel nights (Quad Occupancy)

  • 4 cabin nights (4-6 per cabin)

  • 2 front country camping nights

  • 2 backcountry nights

  • Most meals included while in California

  • Flight

  • Rental Van

  • Fuel

  • Personal Camping/backpacking gear

  • Spending money

  • Lunch en route (airports)

Notes on Itinerary and Fees:

This is a SAMPLE ITINERARY ONLY.  Camping locations and itinerary are subject to what the boys will want to do.  Through planning this trip, the boys will be given this budget, and learn the process of planning a high adventure trip.  This means the itinerary will likely be somewhat different than what is presented here.  As with any travel, flexibility is the key to a successful trip!
